Minnesota Vikings add Gerald Alexander to defensive staff

The Vikings have added Gerald Alexander to their coaching staff as defensive pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach.

Alexander played five seasons in the NFL at safety before moving quickly into coaching. He spent seven years developing in the college ranks, then made the jump back to the pros in 2021 as defensive backs coach for the Miami Dolphins. That connection matters — current Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores was Miami’s head coach at the time, giving the organization firsthand familiarity with Alexander’s work and coaching style.

Since then, Alexander has continued building his NFL résumé with defensive backs roles for both the Steelers and Raiders, bringing a mix of playing experience and modern pass-defense coaching to Minnesota’s staff.
