Drew Allar
Drew Allar, QB, Penn State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 243.
Projected 40 Time: 4.70.
Projected Round (2025): 3-5.
Drew Allar entered the 2025 season viewed by many as a potential cornerstone quarterback for the 2026 NFL Draft. At 6’5” with a live arm, he still looks the part NFL teams want at the position. But quarterback evaluation is ultimately about performance, progression, and answers under pressure—and Allar’s 2025 tape raised more questions than it solved.
While the physical traits remain intact, Allar’s on-field development stalled badly. His accuracy wavered, his timing never fully settled, and his effectiveness against top-tier competition was inconsistent at best. Against lesser opponents, his production was modest rather than dominant—an alarming sign for a player once projected as a first-round talent.
2025 Regression and Red Flags
The performance against Oregon became a defining moment for scouts. Allar showed flashes of arm talent and competitiveness, but the game ultimately reinforced existing concerns. His decision-making under pressure faltered, and the interception that sealed the loss was emblematic of his struggles: late processing, mechanical breakdown, and poor ball placement in a critical moment.
Across the season, similar issues surfaced:
-
Inconsistent accuracy on routine throws
-
Footwork that deteriorated when pressure arrived
-
Hesitation on reads, especially versus disguised coverage
-
Limited ability to elevate play when structure broke down
NFL evaluators can live with mistakes—but they need to see growth. Instead, Allar appeared to regress.
Mechanical Concerns Persist
Scouts continue to flag Allar’s mechanics and footwork as core issues. His base narrows too often, leading to scattershot accuracy, particularly on intermediate throws that are staples of NFL offenses. While his arm strength allows him to attempt NFL-caliber passes, his completion rate and ball placement do not consistently match that ambition.
Mobility is another concern. Despite his size, Allar lacks functional escapability. When plays break down, he struggles to reset and create clean throwing platforms, limiting his effectiveness outside of structure.
Revised NFL Projection
Once discussed as a potential QB1 candidate in the class, Allar now projects very differently.
At this stage, league consensus has shifted him into a Day 3 evaluation range, with most teams viewing him as:
-
A traits-based developmental quarterback
-
A long-term backup candidate
-
A project who must be rebuilt mechanically and mentally
Comparisons to Josh Allen based on size and arm strength no longer hold weight without the accompanying year-over-year improvement. The tools alone are not enough.
Final SKOL Take
Drew Allar still has an NFL arm and NFL size—but the 2025 season significantly damaged his draft outlook. Rather than trending upward, his tape showed stagnation and regression, particularly against elite competition. Until he proves he can consistently process, throw with accuracy, and command games when the pressure rises, teams will hesitate to invest premium draft capital.
Updated Draft Range: Round 4–7
Ideal Role: Developmental QB3 with physical upside
Risk Profile: High
Path to Relevance: Mechanical overhaul, simplified reads, time on a practice squad
Allar now enters the 2026 draft cycle not as a presumed franchise quarterback—but as a bet on traits, patience, and coaching.
